Jaguars Fall to Nebraska Omaha In The Emerald Coast Championship Game

Niceville, Fl. | Southern (2-4) battled to the very end on Saturday afternoon but fell to Nebraska Omaha 78-88, in the championship game at the Emerald Coast Classic. 

Brion Whitley paced four Jaguars in double figures with a season-high 23 points, on 8-of-16 shooting, including 4-of-9 from the 3-point line. P.J. Byrd finished with 15 points and team-high seven assist. Bryson Etienne pitched in 12 points and Tyrone Lyons finished with 11 points.
 
Nebraska Omaha (3-4) was led by Luke Jungers with 17 points as six other Mavericks finished in double figures.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • Southern shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) from the field, 35.5 percent (11-of-31) from the 3-point line and 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the free-throw line
  • Southern finished with 24 points in the paint, 16 fast break points, 12 bench points, nine points off 16 Mavericks turnovers and eight second-chance points
  • Nebraska Omaha went 26-of-49 (53.1 percent) from the floor, 7-of-14 (50.0) from the 3-point line and 29-of-34 (85.3 percent) from the charity stripe
  • Mavericks finished with 32 points in the paint, 26 fast break points, 24 bench points, 19 points off 17 SU turnovers and seven second-chance points
 
UP NEXT 
Southern returns to the friendly confines of the F.G. Clark Activity Center on Monday Nov. 28 against Champion Christian. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. central time and the game will be streamed on the Jaguar Sports Network.
