Southern defeats Loyola Maryland in game two of the Emerald Coast Classic

Niceville, Fl. | Southern (2-3) jumped out to a 12-3 lead and never looked back on Friday afternoon as the Jaguars defeated Loyola Maryland, 76-58, at the Emerald Coast Classic. 

P.J. Byrd paced three Jaguars in double figures with a season-high 18 points, on 5-of-6 shooting, including 8-of-10 from the free throw line. Bryson Etienne and Jalen Reynolds both pitched in scoring 11 points.
 
Loyola Maryland (2-4) was led by David Brown III with 22 points and Alonso Faure added 10 points.  
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • Southern shot 50.0 percent (29-of-58) from the field, 31.3 percent (5-of-6) from the 3-point line and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) from the free-throw line
  • P.J. Byrd led the way offensively with a season-high 18 points, on 5-of-6 from the floor, 8-of-10 from the free throw line, game-high five rebounds and four assist
  • Bryson Etienne finished with 11 points and game-high five steals 
  • Jalen Reynolds had a season-high 11 points on 5-of-8 and four rebounds
  • Southern finished with 42 points in the paint, 37 points off 31 Greyhounds turnovers,29 fast break points, 24 bench points and four second-chance points 
  • Loyola Maryland went 19-of-40 (47.5 percent) from the floor, 5-of-17 (29.4) from the 3-point line and 15-of-30 (50.0 percent) from the charity stripe
  • Greyhounds finished with 22 points in the paint, 20 points off 20 SU turnovers, 13 fast break points, nine second-chance points and eight bench points
 
UP NEXT 
Southern returns to action on Saturday Nov. 26 at Raider Arena on the campus of Northwest Florida State College against University of Nebraska Omaha for the final day of the Emerald Coast Classic. Tip-off against the Mavericks is set for 12:30 p.m. central time and the game will be streamed on FloHoops network.
