Aniya Clark in the 46th minute gave Southern University (6-8-2, 3-3-1) the draw against Texas Southern University, Friday night at Alexander Durley Stadium, 1-1. With the draw, the Lady Jaguars guarantee themselves a spot in the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament. They currently sit in fifth, with two games left, and can move as high as third.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Southern would come out firing with two shots in the first four minutes, but TSU would get on the board first in the seventh minute.
- The teams would combine for 13 total shots in the first half, six for the Lady Jaguars.
- Southern would come out in the second half looking to tie it up. They did just that when Clark thew it into the box and found Jackson for the header.
- The Lady Jaguars would have ample shots of taking the lead, with 11 shots in the second half, but would not be able to capitalize.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Southern would have a 17-11 advantage on shots.
- The Lady Jaguars finished with eight shots on goal, while TSU had four.
- TSU finished with seven saves to just three by Southern.
- Each team would commit six fouls.
- All four corners came in the second half for Southern. TSU would finish with five, only one in the second half.
