BATON ROUGE, LA – The Southern University volleyball team battled Texas Southern University until the last point in a four-set loss Monday night at Seymour Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
- The battle started early in the first set, the teams would trade small runs until Southern would force TSU to call a timeout, up 9-6.
- TSU would turn things around and grab a 17-14 lead, forcing Southern to call a timeout.
- The Southern would use their last timeout when TSU would get two straight points for a 21-17 lead.
- TSU would close out the 25-19 win in set one.
SET 2
- TSU would grab a quick lead, but two three point runs by Southern would force them to call a timeout with the Lady Jaguars leading 9-6.
- Southern would get five straight points to grow the lead to 14-6, forcing TSU to use their last timeout.
- Southern would use their first timeout when TSU fought their way back to 21-18.
- After another three-point run by TSU, Southern would call their last timeout up by one at 22-21.
- Southern would get three of the final four points to win set two, 25-22
SET 3
- The third set would see TSU jump out to another early lead, Southern would have to call a timeout down 12-7.
- Southern would claw their way back to within two at 16-14, forcing TSU to call a timeout.
- After a three-point run by TSU, Southern would use their last timeout down 21-16.
- TSU would get four more points to take set three 25-17.
SET 4
- TSU would get a three-point lead twice, the second would force Southern to call a timeout down 14-11.
- After TSU would have the biggest lead of the set at 15-11, Southern would claw their way back to tie it at 21 apiece and TSU would use their first timeout.
- Southern would find themselves down to their final point at 25-24, when they would use their last timeout.
- Southern would gain a lead at 26-25 but TSU would finally be able to close out the match with a 29-27 victory in set four.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Southern held a 49-46 advantage in kills
- SU would finish with eight blocks to nine by Texas Southern
- The teams were tied with 43 assists apiece
- The Lady Jaguars had 79 digs, while TSU had 74
- Xaria Taylor shined on senior night with a match high 15 kills and five blocks
- Jordan Felix had 22 assist and Kyla Carrier had 17
- Nyah Alexander and Carrier had double digit digs with 18 and 11, respectively
