BATON ROUGE, LA. – Forty-two kills by 10 Lady Jaguars and 12 blocks by five players, led to a 3-1 win over Prairie View A&M (4-19, 2-5) inside Seymour Gymnasium Sunday afternoon. Southern (2-17, 2-5) would take the final two sets in dominating fashion.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
- Southern would jump out to a quick 4-0 lead before PVAMU would respond to tie it up.
- The two teams would trade runs throughout the set, the biggest lead would belong to the Lady Jaguars at just four, 23-19.
- The Lady Panthers would pull within one at 23-22 before Southern would close it out 25-23.
SET 2
- The Lady Panthers would jump out to a 5-1 lead early in the second set.
- Southern would fight back to tie it at five apiece, from there they would continue their battle from the first set.
- Prairie View would get the lead up to four on three separate occasions, 15-11, 18-14 and 23-19.
- Southern would get three straight points to pull within one at 23-22 before PVAMU would close out the set with the final two, 25-22.
SET 3
- The Lady Jaguars would jump out to a quick 5-1 lead before PVAMU had an answer.
- Five of the next eight points would go to the Lady Panthers, closing the gap to 7-5.
- After a point by Southern, PVAMU would use their first timeout. After that timeout, Southern would see their lead balloon to 15-6, forcing PVAMU to use their last timeout.
- The Lady Jaguars would see their lead hit double-digits three times at 17-7, 18-8 and 22-12 before finishing out the set 25-16.
SET 4
- Southern would fall behind early at 3-1.
- A couple runs for the Lady Jaguars would push them into the lead at 9-5.
- PVAMU would get four straight to tie it up and then tied it up two more times at 13-13 and 14-14. A 4-0 run by Southern followed by a 3-0 run by Prairie View would get the score to 18-17.
- The Lady Jaguars would use a 7-1 run to close out the set 25-18 and take the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- PVAMU would have a 47-42 advantage in kills
- SU would finish with 12 blocks to six by Prairie View
- The Lady Jaguars had 36 assists, while the Lady Panthers had 43
- Prairie View had a slight advantage in digs at 64-63
- Leah Draine (9), Xaria Taylor (7) and Kailee Deffebaugh (7) led Southern in kills.
- Taylor had six blocks for the Lady Jaguars
- Jordan Felix had 16 assist and Kyla Carrier had 10
- Nyah Alexander and Felix had double digit digs with 12 and 11, respectively
