BATON ROUGE, LA. – On a day of celebrating the 10 seniors, two juniors stepped up with their first career goals in a Lady Jaguar uniform. Southern (6-8-1, 3-3) came away with a 2-0 victory against Alabama State University (4-7-3, 2-2-2) Sunday afternoon at A.W. Mumford Stadium/Pete Richardson Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Jaguars would come out on the offensive side with eight shots in the first half, only one would end up on goal.
- ASU would only take three shots in the first half. Sydney Bellamy would save the only two shots on goal.
- The Lady Jaguars would get three more that would be too strong before Deja Griffin found the back of the net with the assist by Aniya Clark in the 68th minute.
- Southern would start to run down the clock by controlling the ball until Kyra Reeves got a ball that was bouncing around and used that opportunity to put the Lady Jaguars up 2-0 in the 89th minute.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Southern would have an 11-shot advantage, 19-8.
- The Lady Jaguars finished with eight shots on goal, while ASU had six.
- Both teams finished with six saves.
- The Lady Jaguars would commit eight fouls and the Lady Hornets had six.
- Southern had a match high four corners. The only corner for Alabama State was in the first half.

The Lady Jaguars will make a trip to Texas next weekend for a match against Texas Southern on Friday at 7 p.m. and Prairie View A&M Sunday at 1 p.m.
