BATON ROUGE, LA—The Southern University Jaguars (2-6, 1-1) drop a tough match against the Texas Southern University Lady Tigers (3-13, 2-0) on Monday night inside the H.W. Moody Intramural Sports Complex.
The first set was a back-and-forth battle until an attack error by
Kendall Dutton gave the Tigers a three-point advantage and forcing the Jaguars to take a timeout. Coming out of that break, the Jaguars closed the gap before the Lady Tigers were able to go on a run and take set one.
In set two, the Jaguars had an early lead but once the Tigers grabbed the reigns they never looked back.
During set three the script was flipped as the Jaguars were able to grab the lead early and stagger the Lady Tigers. An attack error by TSU gave the Jaguars a 15-14 advantage, and it was then when the Jaguars knew they had the advantage in the set.
Despite winning set three the Jaguars were unable to complete the rally and ended up dropping set four which gave Texas Southern the overall victory.
Dutton led the way for the Jaguars with 12 kills followed by
Ravon Robertson and
Elise Doomes finishing with nine, respectively.
Robertson was also a part of some huge blocks for SU where she and
Nya Campbell both closed the match with four blocks.
Ryleigh Taylor and
Kyla Carrier were both tied for total assists with twenty a piece.
Kennedy Joubert led both teams in digs with 23.
