Jagurs Closeout the LA Tech Invitational With a Win

BATON ROUGE, LA – Southern University volleyball team traveled to Ruston, La to participate in the LA Tech Invitational on Thursday and Friday inside the Thomas Assembly Center on the campus of Louisiana Tech University.
 
Despite dropping the first two games against Little Rock & LA Tech, the Jaguars were able to capture their first win of the young season against an instate foe, New Orleans University.
 
Game 1 – SU 0 Little Rock 3
(9-25, 10-25, 9-25)
 
The Jaguars were led by Nya Campbell who completed the game with four kills followed by Ravon Robertson with three. Ryleigh Taylor finished the game with nine assists and four digs. Kennedy Joubert was the team leader in digs with four. 
 
Game 2 – SU 0 Louisiana Tech 3
(26-28, 19-25, 15-25)
 
Nya Campbell continued her stellar play in the second match of the day with 14 kills followed by Kendall Dutton with nine kills. Ryleigh Taylor led the Jaguars in assist and digs with 16 kills and 15 digs followed by Kennedy Joubert with seven. 
 
The Jaguars matched LA Tech in total number of blocks with five. Xaria Taylor was the team leader in blocks with three. Nyah Alexander and Joubert both finished the game with double digit outputs in the digs category, Alexander with 13 and Joubert with 11.
 
 
Game 3 – SU 3 New Orleans 2
(25-18, 14-25, 16-25, 25-21, 19-17)
 
Kennedy Joubert had her largest statistical output of the young season leading the team in two separate categories. She finished the game with 20 digs and two aces. Joubert also added seven assists to her performance. Freshman Kyla Carrier did a great job of setting her teammates up, finishing the game with 21 assists followed by Ryleigh Taylor with 16.
 
The Jaguars had a total of 51 kills in the game led by Junior Kendall Dutton. Elise Doomes and Xaria Taylor both finished with nine.
 
Next Up
The Jaguars are set to open a two-game homestead as they play host to Prairie View on September 26 and Texas Southern on September 27. Both matches will be played in Seymour Gym on The Bluff. Sundays game against PVAMU is scheduled for 3pm and the match against Texas Southern is set to begin at 6pm.
