BATON ROUGE, LA-- The Southern University Lady Jaguars (2-4-1) fell to the University of Louisiana at Monroe Warhawks (5-0) 6-1 Sunday afternoon in Jaguar Park.
The Warhawks controlled most of the first half with 18 shots and 12 on goal while the Jaguars only had six with five on goal. Goalkeeper
Chioma Eriken ended up with 10 saves to keep the game close at 2-1.
ULM got the scoring started with Janet Stopka found the back of the net off the rebound of a Lenna Goeppel shot in the 24
th minute.
Victoria Thomas equalized the game two minutes later when she had a breakaway goal with an assist from
Alayla Jackson.
"We talked about putting on pressure and we you get the opportunity to take it." Head Coach
Jeremy Fontenot stated about Thomas' goal. "That was the opportunity she had and we know she is capable of doing it."
SU continued to play good defense but not allowing ULM to score off multiple shots. However, Mara Grutkamp made it 2-1 in the 41
st minute.
In the second half, ULM kept the pressure on and the Lady Jaguars couldn't respond. The Warhawks finished with four goals in the final 45 minutes.
Eriken finished with 13 saves in 69 minutes while
Sydney Bellamy finished the final 21 minuets with two saves.
"We played hard. It was 2-1 at halftime and we just let up in the second half," Fontenot said. " We have two weeks off before conference starts. We have a chance to take care of a lot of injuries and get healthy. We have a chance to get back to how we know to play soccer."

The Lady Jaguars will be off for 12 days before starting the Southwestern Athletic Conference portion of their schedule on Friday September 24 at 6:00 pm against Texas Southern in Jaguar Park.
