MADISON, AL. -- Southern defeated Prairie View 8-4, on Saturday afternoon at Toyota Field in Madison, Alabama to reach the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament Championship game.
Senior
Markaylon Boyd got the start for the Jaguars. He pitched three innings allowing only three hits and two runs. Freshman
Jerry Burkett II pitched 1.1 innings allowed two hits and one run.
Dillen Miller (1-1) picked up the win. Pitching 2.1 innings with one strikeout, one hit and one run.
Enrique Ozoa picked up his sixth save on the year, allowing only two hits and recorded two strikeouts.
Southern (19-28) scored eight runs on 11 hits.
Prairie View took the early advantage scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning.
The Jaguars answered in the top of the third inning.
AJ Walter singled to left field, then advanced to third on
Isaiah Adams double to right field.
Jovante Dorris RBI single up the middle scoring Walter and Adams as the Jaguars took the 2-1 lead. Dorris was moved to second and third on SAC bunts by Wilbur and Burgos.
Taj Porter RBI single up the middle scored Dorris as the Jaguars extended their lead 3-1.
PVAM added one run in the bottom of the third, cutting the SU lead 3-2.
Southern added two runs in the top of the fifth as
Judah Wilbur and
O'Neill Burgos both were walked. Wilbur advanced to third and Burgos to second on a wild pitch.
Tremaine Spears RBI double to center field scored both runners as SU extending the lead to 5-2.
The Panthers added one run in the bottom of the fifth and seventh innings as they cut SU lead 5-4.
SU answered, scoring two runs in the top of the eighth.
Zavier Moore got the Jaguars going with a single through the left side.
AJ Walter got on base with a fielder's choice to the shortstop.
Jovante Dorris RBI single through the left side scored Walter as he advanced to second base on the throw. Making it 6-4 SU. After two walks and hit batter the Jaguars had the bases loaded when
Taj Porter stepped up to the plate. He was hit by a pitch as a run scored extending SU lead 7-4.
The Jaguars added another run in the top of the ninth as
AJ Walter RBI single through the right side brings in a SU runner, extending the lead 8-4.

Southern will face Jackson State tomorrow at 12:00 pm on ESPN3 from Toyota Field in Madison, Alabama for the 2021 SWAC Championship.
