BATON ROUGE, LA -- 12 Southern University Football players were named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference Spring 2021 Postseason All-SWAC Football team voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors and was announced Thursday by the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Junior defensive end from Ocala, FL
Jordan Lewis was named the SWAC Defensive player of the year and All-SWAC First Team Defense after leading the SWAC and FCS in sacks with 10.5 for 73 yards and tackles for loss with 15.0 for 82 yards. He completed the Spring season with 27 tackles, 19 solo takcels, 15.0 TFL, 10.5 Sacks and 1 forced fumble. For his efforts Lewis was named as a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Defensive Player of the Year Award. The two-time SWAC Defensive Player of the Week also garnered BOXTOROW National Player of the Week and LSWA Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.
A pair of players were named All-SWAC First Team Defense including
Jalen Ivy who finished the year with 16 tackles, including six solo stops. He also finished the year with a pair of tackles for loss from his defensive end position. He was joined on the first team by
Chase Foster who finished with 20 tackles this spring, including 16 solo stops. He finished with 0.5 tackles for loss while he also recorded one interception and five pass break ups. He finished 9th in the conference in passes defended.
Also making the All-SWAC First Team Offense was
Jerodd Sims, sophomore running back from Opelousas, LA. During the Spring 2021 season he rushed for 241 yards rushing off 43 carries with four touchdowns finishing in the top 10 in the SWAC in rushing yards. Averaging 5.4 yards per carry and 46.2 yards per game.
Brian Williams,
Dallas Black and
J'Atyre Carter produce a Jaguars offense that finished first in the SWAC in scoring with 37.6 points a game, 1,055 rushing yards averaging a league best 211 yards per game totaling 2,152 yards of total offense for 430.4 yards per game.
Joining the All-SWAC First Team Offense is Freshman
Ethan Howard who finished the season with 14 receptions for 240 yards and two touchdowns. Had a career long 38-yard reception against Grambling State. The freshman finished 10th in the conference in receiving.
Junior kicker and punter
Cesar Barajas rounds out the all-conference selections, earning First Team honors as a punter and kicker. He finished the year with 16 punts for 679 total yards and averaged 42.4 yards per punt and booted a long of 58. He forced four fair catches and had two land inside the 20, while he finished first in the conference in punting average. Cesar was 4-for-4 on field goals, 24-of-24 on PAT's, made a career-long 49-yard field goal against Jackson State.

Alabama A&M and Southern University led all member institutions will 12 total selections followed by Univ. of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (9), Alabama State (7), Prairie View A&M (3), Jackson State (3), Mississippi Valley State (3) and Texas Southern (1).
