HOUSTON, TX. -- Southern (10-13, 8-3 SWAC) defeated Texas Southern in extra innings, taking game two of the weekend series 5-3 Friday afternoon at MacGregor Park.
The Tigers scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning off a wild pitch with basses loaded.
Southern got on the board in the top of the fifth with
Zavier Moore solo home run to left field tied the game 1-1.
In the top of the sixth inning, with runners on the corner
Taj Porter flied out to left field to bring home
Isaiah Adams. Tremaine Spears was hit by a pitch,
O'Neill Burgos advanced to second. The next batter Moore walked loading the bases for
Bubba Thompson who also walked scoring Burgos for the 3-1 Jaguar lead.
TSU would score two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning making it 3-3 all.
Spears double down the left field line in the top of the tenth inning scored two runs for the Jaguars taking a 5-3 lead.
Ozoa came on to pitch in the bottom of the tenth for SU, striking out three batters sealing the victory for the Jaguars.
Spears led Southern with one hit on the day along with two RBI's. Burgos scored two runs and two other Jaguars recorded at least one hit on the night, as they finished with three total hits against four different Tigers pitchers.
Dimitri Frank (1-0) picked up the win for the Jaguars, pitching all 2.2 innings and giving up just one hit and striking out two.
Enrique Ozoa picked up the save, his fourth on the year.
UP NEXT
The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Saturday, with first pitch being scheduled for 1 pm.
