COLUMBIA, MO -- Southern University women's basketball team got all they could handle on Monday night as they fall to Missouri 73-54 in front of 2,615 fans inside Mizzou Arena on the campus of Univeristy of Missouri.
Freshman point guard
Aleighyah Fontenot led the Lady Jaguars for the second time this season with 12 points, three rebounds and one steal in a team-high twenty-six minutes of play. Diamond Hunter finished the night with ten points, four rebounds and one assist in her second start of the season. Amani Mcwain chipped in eight points and two rebounds. Chloe Fleming, Genovea Johnson and Xyllize Harrison added four points each. Harrison finished the night with a team-high and career-high six boards in ten minutes of play.
The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Lady Tigers to 20 turnovers, picking up 20 points off turnovers. SU played all fourteen players with only twelve landing in the scoring column. Southern shot 31 percent for the game (21-68) and 20 percent from behind the arc (5-25). SU shot 86 percent from the charity stripe finishing (7-8).
Missouri finished the night with three players in double-digits led by Haley Frank with 21 points and six rebounds. Aijha Blackwell added 15 points and game-high 12 rebounds. LaDazhia Williams chipped in 12 points and three boards.
UP NEXT
Southern will take a much needed Christmas break for a couple days before getting back to work to get ready for their conference opener against Texas Southern on January 3rd. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 PM.
