BATON ROUGE, LA – Four first-time winners captured honors Monday in the weekly voting for Louisiana Sports Writers Association state college football players of the week.
Collin Guggenheim of Nicholls was the offensive player as the freshman running back rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns in the Colonels 42-21 win over Northwestern State.
There was a tie for defensive player as Garrett Crawford of Southeastern and Hayden Shaheen of Nicholls split the votes. Crawford had 2.5 sacks in Southeastern's 23-20 victory over McNeese and Shaheen had an interception and a couple of tackles for loss in Nicholls' win.
Luke Jackson's 47-yard field goal with one second left in Southern's 38-35 win over Alcorn State was good to capture special team honors in the state.

OFFENSE
COLLIN GUGGENHEIM – NICHOLLS – RB, Fr., Kenner, La.
In a 42-21 win over Northwestern State, freshman running back Collin Guggenheim set a new career-high for the second straight week, rushing for 158 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries in his first career start. Guggenheim finished off a pair of drives in the third quarter with 3- and 2-yard touchdown runs to put Nicholls ahead, 42-14. For the game, he averaged 7.2 yards per carry and did not get stopped for negative yardage. With the Colonels' top three running backs on the depth chart out with injury, Guggenheim has been stellar as the feature back the last two weeks, averaging 140.5 yards rushing with three touchdowns.
DEFENSE (TIE)
GARRETT CRAWFORD – SOUTHEASTERN – DL, So., Slidell, Louisiana
Crawford finished with a season-high 2.5 sacks to key Southeastern's 23-20 victory over McNeese on Saturday. His eight tackles also marked a career-best performance in the Lions' sixth straight win.
HAYDEN SHAHEEN – NICHOLLS – LB, Fr., Baton Rouge, La.
Freshman Hayden Shaheen led the Colonels in their rivalry win, 42-21, over Northwestern State, recording an interception, five tackles, and two tackles for loss including one sack. Shaheen's sack and interception were both career firsts for the starting linebacker. He currently ranks third on the team in tackles and TFLs.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Luke Jackson – SOUTHERN – Fr., --
Hits a career-long 47-yard field goal with one second left to give the Jaguars a 38-35 victory over Alcorn State … Also hit all five extra point attempts in the game.
