Game Preview: Southern vs Texas Southern

BATON ROUGE, LA-- Southern University (2-2, 1-0) travel to Arlington, Texas to continue Southwestern Athletic Conference play with a game against Texas Southern University (0-3, 0-1) on Saturday, October 9th in the Arlington Football Showdown.
 
This will be the third time these two teams will meet in the DFW metroplex dating back to 2018.  The Jaguars own a 49-20-4 advantage in the series with TSU, which dates back to September 24, 1949.

Game Notes

Ground and Pound
The Jaguars are averaging 197.5 yards per game on the ground so far this season which gives the Jags the number one rushing offense in the SWAC. SU is led in rushing by Devon Benn who is averaging 53.3 yards per game followed by Craig Nelson who is averaging 52.5 yards per game on a total of 27 carries. Freshman Kobe Dillon has stepped up when the Jags needed, and he averages 52.3 yards per game on only 18 carries in the young season.
 
Defense Jags, Defense
Camron Peterson and Chase Foster are tied for the team lead in tackles with 21. Tamaurice Smith is third on the team with tackles (20) and is the team leader in passes defended with five pass break-ups. Jordan Lewis continues his pursuit to leave his name in the national record books for total sacks. He now has 32 sacks along with being the FCS leader in sacks per game (0.97).
 
Field General
Glendon McDaniel is a 6-2 200 Quarterback from Donthan, Alabama. McDaniel was a two-sport star coming out of Donthan High School where he lettered for three straight years. In three games this season, McDaniel is 28-43 for 379 yards with six touchdowns. He has also accounted for 83 yards rushing with two scores.
 
McDaniel recorded early season highs in the game against Mississippi Valley with 234 passing yards along with five touchdown passes. Entering the season, Bubba was the number two QB on the depth chart but when his number was called, he has been able to lead his troops like a general.
