Jaguars Defeat the Lady Tigers in Five Sets

BATON ROUGE, LA—The Southern University volleyball team walked out of the H&PE Arena in Houston, Texas with a win against the Texas Southern Lady Tigers to spoil their senior night on Monday evening. With this win the teams split the series played this year.
 
The Jaguars jumped out to an early 3-0 lead behind kills from Ravon Robertson and Kendall Dutton. There were 13 ties throughout this set where both teams were fighting hard for the victory. In the end, the Lady Tigers were able to take set on in extra points.
 
TSU took an early lead in the set two and held the lead for the duration of the set. The Lady Tigers took set two by a score of 25-19. 
 
Set three, the Jaguars flipped the switch on TSU. SU hopped out to a 6-0 lead behind kills from Dutton and Kyla Carrier. The Jaguars never relinquished the lead and even took a 22-9 advantage after a kill from Robertson. The Tigers rallied to close the score down to 23-18, but The Jaguars took the set by a score of 25-20.  
 
Set four began with a back-and-forth battle with thirteen ties throughout the set. The Tigers errors began to backfire on them, and they were never able to bounce back. A kill by Robertson gave the Jags a 22-19 lead before the Lady Tigers were able to tie the game at 22. SU was forced to score extra points but was able to take the 27-25 decision.
 
TSU took an early 4-1 lead but that wasn't enough to break the spirits of the Jaguars. Dutton accounted for back-to-back kills later in the set and an error by TSU tied the score at 11. The set was won by a kill from Dutton to give the Jaguars the 15-13 victory.
 
Dutton had a total of 17 kills followed by Robertson with 16 and Xaria Taylor with 12. Carrier topped her season high of 42 assists with 47 assists this match. That was also a game high in the assist column for Carrier. Trenity Lundy closed the game with 21 digs followed by Joilyn Azore with 20 digs.
 
NEXT UP
The Jaguars will host a cluster were they will welcome 5 teams on campus for two days full of matches beginning on October 31st with the first match to begin at 9:00 am.
