Jackson, MS -- Southern fell behind early in the first half and never recovered, as Jackson State runs away from the the Lady Jaguars 62-42.
SU was led by Senior guard
Nakia Kincey with 14 points, four rebounds, 2 assists, three blocks and four steals. Taneara Moore added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds along with a game-high five steals. Amani Mcwain, Tyeniesha Metcalf and Kayla Watson all finished the night with five points each. Watson and Metcalf both added three steals each.
Despite trailing the entire game,
Tyeniesha Metcalf hits a huge three-point basket with 8:26 left in the game, starting a Lady Jaguars 12-4 run helping SU outscore JSU 24-14 in the fourth quarter.
"Tonight we could not hit shots during the first 3 quarters. We did a pretty good job moving the basketball and got some open looks but couldn't get anything to fall. Our kids kept battling and we forced a few turnovers that led to some easy buckets. I told the team that we have to keep working hard defensively and that eventually some shots would fall for us. We have 2 games at home this weekend and we need to take care of business.", said Head Coach Carlos Funchess.
The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Lady Tigers to 31 turnovers, picking up 16 points off turnovers. SU had eight players land in the scoring column. Southern shot 21 percent for the game (14-64) and 38 percent from behind the arc (5-13). SU shot 45 percent from the charity stripe finishing (9-20).
Dayzsha Rogan led the Lady Tigers with 17 points, Ameshya Williams added 13 points and Jariyah Covington finished with 12 points.

The Lady Jaguars will be back in action on Saturday, January 16th at 2 PM as the host the Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
On Monday, January 18th the Lady Jaguars will take on Mississippi Valley State on Martin Luther King Day. Tip-off is slated for 2 PM.
