BATON ROUGE, LA -- Southern picks up its seventh straight conference win in a thrilling overtime game on Senior day as the Jaguars defeated Prairie View A&M 89-80 Saturday night at the F.G. Clark Activity Center, clinching a first round SWAC Conference Tournament Quarterfinal home game on Tuesday, March 10 at 7:30 pm.
Southern is now 16-15 on the year and 13-5 in the SWAC, finishing the regular season in second place and going 8-1 at home during conference play.
Prairie View is now 18-13 and 14-4 in the league.
Ahsante Shivers led SU with a game-high and season-high 22 points on 6-of-12 shooting, 10-of-10 from the charity stripe and seven rebounds. Senior
Amel Kuljuhovic added 19 points off on 5-of-8 shooting, 8-of-8 from the charity stripe and five rebounds. Senior
Darius Williams contributed 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting, 3-of-6 from free throw line along with five rebounds.
Lamarcus Lee finished the night with 11 points and nine rebounds

Southern had the lead for 40 minutes of the game that included two ties and seven lead changes. PVAM was 21-of-42 (50%) from the field, 3-of-7 (43%) from three and 35-of-48 (73%) at the free throw line. The Jaguars largest lead of the night was 15 points and SU finished the game shooting 29-of-63 (46%) 2-of-13 (15%) from three point range and 29-of-36 (81%) at the charity stripe.
Southern out rebounded Prairie View 36-25, had a 13-11 advantage in points off turnovers and outscored the Panthers in the paint 48-22.
