BATON ROUGE, LA -- Southern picks up its eight straight win in the Quarterfinals of the 2020 Cricket Wireless SWAC Tournament by defeating Alabama State 67-53 Tuesday night at the F.G. Clark Activity Center, advancing to the SWAC Conference Tournament Semifinals on Friday, March 13 at 8:30 pm.
Southern is now 17-15 on the year and finished 13-5 in the SWAC play finishing in second place and going 11-1 at home during the 2019-2020 season.
SU had four Jaguars finish in double figures led by Senior
Darius Williams with a game-high and season-high 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, 3-of-6 from the charity stripe and four rebounds. Sophomore
Jayden Saddler added 14 points off the bench on 6-of-10 shooting, 1-of-1 from the charity stripe and three rebounds. Graduate transfer
Micah Bradford contributed 12 points, six rebounds and five assist. Freshman
Damiree Burns finished the night with 10 points on 2-of-4 shooting, 6-of-8 from the charity stripe and seven rebounds.

Southern had the lead for 21 minutes of the game that included two ties and seven lead changes. ASU was 23-of-52 (42%) from the field, 3-of-16 (19%) from three and 4-of-12 (33%) at the free throw line. The Jaguars largest lead of the night was 14 points and SU finished the game shooting 23-of-55 (42%) 5-of-18 (28%) from three point range and 16-of-25 (64%) at the charity stripe.
Southern out rebounded Alabama State 40-31, had a 12-10 advantage in points off turnovers and outscored the Hornets in second chance points 13-6.
