BATON ROUGE, LA. -- Southern's fast start wasn't enough as #11 LSU powered past the Jaguars picking up 11 hits on the night at Skip Bertman Field. Final score from Alex Box Stadium 8-3.
The Jaguars picked up two runs off seven hits on the night.
William Nelson hits a single to right field bringing in
Bubba Thompson and advancing
Brad Jenkins to third, then
Frankie Montesino hits a sacrifice fly to left field to send Jenkins home to give the Jaguars a 2-0 lead over the Tigers. LSU rally started by SS Zack Mathis hitting a sacrifice fly ball to left field sending Gavin Dugas home to pick up the Tigers first run of the third inning and never looked back as they controlled the game for 7 straight innings.
"We're making strides; we're looking to improve each day," Southern Head Coach
Kerrick Jackson said. "Our guys are going to fight. That's never going to be a problem. We have to be smarter baseball players."
Mykel Page picks up his first loss of the season throwing 36 pitches with 23 strikes and gave up three runs. The Jaguars scoring came from
Derrick Mayes, Thompson and Jenkins with one run each.
SU is 2-3 on the season
