Southern Falls to Texas Tech 79-60

LUBBOCK, TEXAS -- Junior guard Amani Mcwain scored a team-high 14 points as Southern fell to Texas Tech in the final non-conference game of the 2020-2021 season.

The Lady Jaguars trailed 23-12 after the first quarter, before the Red Raiders used a 12-4 run to start the second quarter to take a 23-point lead into halftime.

Mcwain had a season-high, finishing with 14 points, four steals, and one assist. Nakia Kincey hits a career-high 12 points, two rebounds, and two steals. Caitlin Davis and Genovea Johnson both added seven points each for the Lady Jaguars. Raven White grabbed seven boards in twenty-five minutes of play.

"We got off to a slow start in the first quarter and put them on the free-throw line too many times. I told the team that you have to adjust to the way that the officials are calling the game. We got down early but kept fighting and cut into their lead despite being in foul trouble. I was proud of the way the girls competed and we just have to build on the positives.", said Head Coach Carlos Funchess.

The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Lady Red Raiders to 22 turnovers, picking up 16 points off turnovers. SU played all twelve players with ten landing in the scoring column. Southern shot 35 percent for the game (21-60) and 26 percent from behind the arc (6-23). SU shot 71 percent from the charity stripe finishing (12-17).

Lexi Gordon finished the night with a game-high 25 points and a game-high ten rebounds for the Lady Red Raiders. Vivian Gray added 22 points and five rebounds.
