Southern Falls to Oklahoma State 68-34

Box Score

STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA --  Despite ending the first half tied up 20-20 with Oklahoma State, fatigue set in during the second half allowing the Lady Cowboys to take advantage of a short-staffed Lady Jaguars team. The final from OSU was 68-34 from historic Gallagher-IBA Arena.

Sophomore guard Genovea Johnson is making her presence known early this season leading the Lady Jaguars in scoring for the second straight game finishing the night with nine points, two rebounds and four steals. Junior guard Amani Mcwain chipped in nine points, four rebounds and two steals in twenty-seven minutes of play. Sophomore post player Raven White finished the night with eight points along with seven rebounds in a game-high thirty-two minutes of play.

"My biggest concern coming into tonight's game was giving up a lot of offensive rebounds. I felt we did a great job of boxing out in the first half but the second half was just the opposite. They did a really good job in their zone defense which caused us a lot of problems. We're going to make a few adjustments and hopefully do a better job against zones", said Head Coach Carlos Funchess.

The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Lady Cowboys to 18 turnovers picking up 11 points off the turnovers. SU played all nine players that dressed with six landing in the scoring column. Southern shot 25 percent for the game (14-55) and ten percent from behind the arc (1-10). SU shot a season-high 83 percent from the charity stripe finishing (5-6).

Oklahoma State shooting guard Lauren Fields shot a whopping fifty percent from the field finishing the night with a game-high 15 points, five rebounds and three assists in twenty-eight minute of play for the Lady Cowboys. Starting forward Natasha Mack added ten points and a game-high nine rebounds.
