Amel Kuljuhovic 13 points but that wasn't enough as Texas Southern (4-10, 1-0) late charge defeats Southern (3-11, 0-1) 77-68 at H&PE Arena on Saturday evening to open up SWAC play.
Four Jaguars scored in double figures including
Darius Williams who had 10 points, a team high eight rebounds and three blocks.
Montese Blake contributed 10 points off the bench and four assist.
Brendon Brooks had nine points and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Shivers three point basket with 0:15 left in the 1st Half helped SU close the Tigers lead heading into the locker room down 40-37. The Jaguars had the lead for 12:57 in the 2nd Half and built there largest lead of six points with 8:22 left in the 2nd Half. In a game that had 25 lead changes and seven ties. SU shot 46 percent for the game (27-for-59) and 35 percent from three-point range (7-20). The Jaguars shot 58 percent form free throw line (7-12) and outscored the Tigers bench 31-24. Southern turned over TSU 15 times.

Southern closes out the Texas swing at Prairie View A&M on Monday, January 6th at 8:00 PM, the game will be televised on ESPNU. The Jaguars return home for Alumni weekend as they take on the Grambling State Tigers, Saturday afternoon 1/11/20 at 5:30 PM in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.
Due to the College Football National Championship game, Southern and Jackson State along with the SWAC office agreed to move up Monday's game to a 3 PM tip-off.
