BATON ROUGE, LA -- Southern's fast start wasn't enough as the Jaguars were edged by Grambling State 61-56 at the F.G. Clark Activity Center on Saturday afternoon.

Brendon Brooks 14 points off the bench led Southern (3-13, 0-3 SWAC). Junior
Ahsante Shivers added 12 points, Senior
Amel Kuljuhovic contributed 11 points and five rebounds and Grad transfer
Micah Bradford added 10 points. Freshman
Damiree Burns had a team high 10 rebounds and two blocks.
Southern built its largest lead in the first half up 13 points with 7:50 left to go in the half. SU went into the locker room with an 11 point lead, 40-29. The Jaguars had the lead for 31:45 of the game that had three lead changes and four ties. SU shot 39 percent for the game (19-for-49) and 45 percent from three-point range (9-20). The Jaguars shot 82 percent form free throw line (9-11).
