SANTA BARBARA, CA –  Junior transfer Ahsante Shivers had career and season-high of 22 points and four rebounds but that wasn't enough as UCSB late charge defeats SU 77-68 at UCSB Events Center also known as the Thunderdome on Friday evening.

Damiree Burns was the only other Jaguar in double figures contributing 10 points off the bench, Southern (3-10) was lead by Burns with a team high seven rebounds. Darius Williams had five rebounds along with six points. Montese Blake and Brendon Brooks each had eight points off the bench for the Jaguars. 

Southern stared the game on a 11-1 run and built its largest lead in the first half up eight points heading into the locker room, 34-26. The Jaguars had the lead for 24:51 of the game that had three lead changes and six ties. SU shot 46 percent for the game (25-for-54) and 33 percent from three-point range (8-24). The Jaguars shot 83 percent form free throw line (10-12) and outscored the Gauchos bench 34-6. Southern turned over UCSB 13 times.

Next up, Southern will take a couple of days off for the Christmas Holiday before they head to Houston, TX to open up SWAC conference play as they take on Texas Southern University on Saturday Jan. 4th at 7:30 pm in the H&PE Arena.
