BATON ROUGE, LA -- The SWAC Western Division Champions coaching staff hit the ground running after the loss in the SWAC Championship game signing nine new Jaguars to the 2020 signing class.
The Jaguars received signatures form nine players, eight of which are Junior College products, during Wednesday's early signing day.
Southern went after skill guys during the early signing period on defense as the SWAC's top rush defense is losing three guys upfront in Dakavian Champion, Joe Davis and linebacker Calvin Lunkins. "We don't just take a guy," Southern Head Coach Dawson Odums said talking about the defensive guys that inked their signatures today. "We are after young men that will represent us on and off the field the Southern Way."
The Jaguars signed three players from the State of Florida and Mississippi, two from the state of Louisiana and one from the state of Texas.
On the offensive side of the ball the Jaguars loss a big frame guy in wide receiver Hunter Register whom mad his presence known on the field in the 2019 season.
