Lady Jaguars Drop Season Opener to Iowa State

Box Score

Ames, Iowa -- The defending Southwestern Athletic Conference Champions opened their 2019-2020 season on the road against Iowa State University Thursday Night. The Jaguars got off to a slow start falling behind early and dropped the contest 69-33.

The Jaguars offense was led by Brittany Rose with 10 points in 27 minutes of play. "Brittany took some good looks tonight, she's a veteran player that had some shots to rim out," Southern coach Carlos Funchess said. First-year players Genovea Johnson and Nakia Kincey added six points each.

The Jaguars defense forced the Lady Cyclones to 20 turnovers where they picked up seven fast-break points. "We couldn't knock down open shots tonight. As a team we have to get better at hitting the open jump shot," Coach Funchess said. Towner and Johnson led the Jaguars with five boards each.
