HOUSTON, Tx | A shorthanded Southern University Jaguars Soccer team split a pair of conference games versus Prairie View A&M University Lady Panthers and Texas Southern University Lady Tigers.
Game 1 | Southern vs Prairie View A&M
Southern freshman goalkeeper Chioma Eriken recorded her first D1 victory with a nine-save, 1-0 shutout over Prairie View Saturday night at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.
The Jaguars came out the gate and scored on their first opportunity when Lauren McKinney connected with a shot to the top left corner over the outstretched arm of the goalkeeper two-minutes into the match, her first goal of the season her second career. Eriken held Prairie View A&M at bay over the next 78 minutes.
PVAMU outshot SU 20-9, 9-3 shots on goal, and corner kicks 9-1.
Prairie View had one last opportunity but could not connect off a cornerkick at the 86 minute mark. Southern held Prairie View to no shots over the 15-minutes to secure their first conference win since a 1-0 victory versus Prairie View, October 21, 2016, at the new PVAMU Soccer Complex.
Game 2 | Southern vs Texas Southern
Texas Southern scored two first-half goals to cruise to a 3-0 victory over Sunday afternoon over Southern at Durley Stadium.
The Lady Tigers struck first at the 13-minute mark when TSU's Mia Marshall recorded her first goal of the season.
TSU added two more goals at the 28-minute mark and 52-minute mark to improve their record (3-0, 3-5-1), Southern falls to (1-3, 2-7).
Southern will be back in action October 5 versus archrival Grambling State University and the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on October 7 at Jaguar Park.
