Southern drops 5-0 tilt to Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas | Southern University Jaguars could not come back from an early deficit, falling to Lamar University Cardinals 5-0, at the LU Soccer Complex, Friday night.

Lamar offense blitzed Southern out the gate, setting up a corner kick three minutes in, and a shot which missed high. LU took advantage of their second opportunity scoring off a header 1-0 at the 3:30 mark.

The Cardinals did not let up, taking 22 first period shots connecting on five in the first 45 minutes.

Freshman Chioma Eriken made a career-high 10 saves in the first half with a total of 18 saves for the game. Eriken held Lamar scoreless in the second half with eight saves off of 15 shots. In two and a half games she has recorded 33 saves.

Lauryn McKinney and Lauren Din each took a shot.

Southern will travel to Austin, Texas to face Huston-Tillotson for a Sunday, tilt at the Austin Texans Soccer Club fields located at 303 E. Pflugerville Pkwy, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
