Sarah Forde recorded nine saves but yielded two goals in the second half as Southern fell 2-0 to Texas-Pan American Friday night in A.W. Mumford Stadium.
It was the first ever meeting between the two schools and each team's season opener.
UTPA Andreya Barrera recorded the first goal in UTPA soccer history in the 51st minute before Aimie Inthoulay added a late goal in the 73rd minute to seal the win for the Broncs.
Southern travels to Little Rock, Ark. to face the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Sunday at 1 p.m. before returning to A.W. Mumford Stadium on Aug. 29 to host in-state foe ULM at 6 p.m.
