In a game that was far from their best offensively, Southern dominated Alabama State with a suffocating defense which held the Lady Hornets to under 25 percent shooting in Monday's 60-44 home win.
Adrian Sanders led all scores with 12 points and grabbed six rebounds as Southern forced Alabama State into 13 of 53 shooting from the field. The Hornets finished 1 of 13 from 3-point range while both teams struggled mightily from the free throw line each shooting 47 percent from the line..
Kendra Coleman joined Sanders as the only Jaguar to reach double figures, scoring 10 points and also dishing out four assists.
Southern (11-5, 8-0) will conclude the first half of Southwestern Athletic Conference play Saturday, Feb. 1 when they host Alcorn State in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.
Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
