Baton Rouge - After claiming the SWAC Western Division crown Sunday, Southern (West No. 1 seed) will open the 2012 SWAC Baseball Tournament against Mississippi Valley State (East No. 4 Seed) on Wednesday, May 16 at Lee-Hines Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. 

Tickets for the tournament are $10 for single day tickets, $5 for student discounted tickets with valid ID and $35 for a tournament pass. Tickets are only available for purchase on game day from the Lee-Hines Box office.

The Office of the Mayor-President has signed on as a major sponsor of the double-elimination tournament.

The Jaguars are currently riding a 16-game win streak and will face LSU-Eunice in a 3-game series May 10-12 at Lee-Hines Field in the regular season finale.

Jackson State, the SWAC eastern division champion, squares off against Texas Southern at 6 p.m. in Bracket B. Alabama State and Prairie View will meet at noon following the Grambling and Alcorn State game.

Although the university will observe its spring commencement exercises on May 18, several parking initiatives have been installed to avoid any inconveniences for both fans attending the tournament and families attending graduation.

“Due to the first two games of the SWAC Baseball Tournament on May 18 being held during Spring Commencement, attendees to the Tournament are directed to park on the Swan Street side (North side) of the F.G. Clark Activity Center," said Southern Athletics Director Dr. Will Broussard. "Security will be on hand to assist and signage will clearly mark the appropriate lot spaces.”

Sunday's championship game is scheduled for a tape delay live broadcast on ESPNU (Cox Cable Channel-243, HD-1243) Monday, May 21 at 7 p.m.
