LADY JAGS PITCHERS HEAD ALL-SWAC LIST

MS - The Southern University softball team
will play the Prairie View A&M Pantherettes tomorrow in second round action
of the Southwestern Athletic Conference softball tournament.
Prairie View defeated their first round opponent
Alabama A&M 9-3 in day one action.
Southern (29-10,
21-3 SWAC) split earlier this season with PV as they opened up SWAC play
against them in Prairie View, TX. Senior
Natasha Jackson picked up 7 RBI's during their four game series and went on to
be named the SWAC Player of the Week for her performance. The game will be played at 1:00 pm on the campus of tournament host Mississippi
Valley State University.
In
game one today Alcorn State
University defeated Texas Southern University
8-2. Alcorn will advance to the second
round and face the Eastern Division regular season champions the Mississippi
Valley Devilettes at 10:30 am. TSU will meet Alabama A&M at 8:00 am.
In other news,
the Lady Jaguars dominated the ALL-SWAC honors list as five players from the
2005 squad were named ALL-SWAC. Junior
Jamila Taylor and sophomore Samisha Bledsoe were named first-team ALL-SWAC as
pitchers. Freshmen Brittany Richardson
received first-team ALL-SWAC honors at shortstop, while Kourtney "Paige" Ruiz
received second-team honors at pitcher.
Last but not least sophomore Brittany Jefferson was named ALL-SWAC
second-team as an outfielder. The complete
