On June 15, 2023, the Southern University women’s volleyball team extended its coaching staff with the addition of Ana Williams as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator.
Williams initially started her college career at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, but later transferred to Howard University in 2019. During her time at Howard, Williams was a member of the 2019 & 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship teams. Williams was also selected MEAC Defensive Specialist of the Week (Feb 20, 2021) and was also a 4x-MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team (2019, 2020, 2021, & 2022).
Williams has a long-standing connection with Southern University. Born into a family with a strong Southern legacy, she grew up surrounded by relatives who had graduated from Southern. Athletics ran in her bloodline as well, with several family members having excelled in sports during their time at Southern. Williams, from an early age of 2, embarked on a journey of immersing herself in the world of Southern athletics, accompanied by her loving parents. Her father, Timothy (Tim) Williams played football during the years ’87 to ’90.
“I’m happy to be back home. Coach Venessa [Jacobs] was my first club volleyball coach and she was instrumental in developing my love for volleyball. I’m thrilled and humbled to not only have played for her but, now get the chance to work with her.”
In May 2021, Williams earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Performance with a concentration in Sports Medicine with a minor in Psychology from Howard University and earned a master’s in Public Health, also from Howard University, in May 2023.
She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
