Rashaad Richardson is entering his first year at Southern University as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball team.

Prior to joining the Southern University program, Richardson spent last season as a Director of Operations at Middle Tennessee State University under Nick McDevitt. Richardson over saw the day-day operations for the program, assisted with team travel, meals, and camps. 

Richardson spent time at Tulane as a graduate assistant. He closely collaborated with Ron Hunter, assistant coaches Ray McCallum, Claude Pardue, Kevin Johnson, and Director of Player Development, Sean Mock to ensure player performance and growth. Richardson was in charge of all video responsibilities, assisted with day-to-day office operations including travel and player equipment, gameday operations and scouting reports to reinforce the basketball vision and plans of coach Hunter in practice and through video.

Prior to Tulane, Richardson spent one a year at Clarendon College as an assistant coach under head coach Isaac Amedee. During his one year at Clarendon College, the team finished 31-3, won the regular season title and the conference tournament for Region 5. They were a No. 2 seed on their way to Hutchinson, Kansas but were unable to compete due to the covid-19 pandemic. Before leaving Clarendon College, Richardson was able to help six players sign Division 1 scholarships.

Richardson began his coaching career as an assistant at Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia for three years. While at Stephenson Richardson assisted head coach Dewayne McKinney & assistant coach Bryant Murry with day-to-day operations. Two out of his three years they were able to win two region titles.

Richardson played at Georgia State, helping the Panthers to 74 wins and a pair of postseason tournament appearances. Richardson's 117 games played ranked in the top-10 in GSU history at the end of his playing career. Richardson was named captain during his final two seasons.

The Charleston, South Carolina native played his first three years of high school basketball at James Island High. He played his final season for Oldsmar Christian School in Tampa, Florida.

Richardson and his wife Brittany Richardson are excited about being in Baton Rouge and ready to help Jaguar Nation.
