Scottie Patton joins Southern University Athletics after one season at Xavier University of Louisiana and 29 NFL seasons, the last 20 as head athletic trainer of the New Orleans Saints.
In 2018, during the 69th annual National Athletic Trainers' Association's Clinical Symposia, Patton was awarded the Bill Chisolm Professional Service Award.Patton and his Saints staff were honored as the 2007 Athletic Training Staff of the Year by the Southeastern Athletic Trainers Association. In 2006 that team was honored as Athletic Training Staff of the Year by the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society and the National Football League Physicians Society.
Patton worked for two Super Bowl champions — the 2009 Saints and the 1994 San Francisco 49ers — and worked as an athletic trainer for the NFC squad at the Pro Bowl three times.
A Gastonia, N.C., native, Patton received his bachelor's degree from Appalachian State and his master's degree from San Jose State.
