Henry Miller

Henry Miller is entering his first season as the Defensive Coordinator for Southern University Football.

He spent the previous four seasons in the same role at Prairie View A&M Univerity.

During the 2018 season at PV, the Panthers had the top-ranked passing defense in the SWAC, yielding just under 173 yards per game. PVAMU also had a season-high nine sacks in a win over Grambling. DBs Ju'Anthony Parker and Will Skinner,  and DEs Quinton Bell and Willie Green each earned All-SWAC honors in 2018.

Miller had two previous stints at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, first as secondary coach (2006-09), and as defensive coordinator (2012-14). In 2012, Miller's defense combined with then offensive coordinator Eric Dooley's offense to lead the Golden Lions to a SWAC Championship and HBCU National Championship. In that title-winning season, defensive lineman Brandon Thurmond earned SWAC Defensive Player of the Year honors, while LB Bill Ross and DB Ryan Shaw earned first-team All-SWAC honors.

In 2013,Jer-ryan Harris was named SWAC Defensive Player of the Year and earned first-team All-SWAC honors. In 2014, DL Demarcus Berry and DB Kevin Rucker earned first-team All-SWAC honors.

During Miller's initial stint at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Kevin Thornton earned first-team All-SWAC honors in 2008.

Miller was secondary coach at Southern from 2000-05, winning a SWAC and HBCU National Championship in 2003 and a SWAC title game appearance in  2004. Miller coached four players who earned first-team All-SWAC honorst in the secondary, including SWAC Defensive Player of the Year Lenny Williams and SWAC Freshman of the Year Jarmaul George, both in 2003.

MIller began his coaching career at Utah State as cornerbacks coach from 1997 to 1999.
