Mykah Mares

Mykah Mares, a native of Houston, Texas, is currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Business. She is in her third year with the Southern University Athletics Department, where she began as a graphic design and marketing intern.

Mykah now serves as the Assistant Strategic Communications for Southern Athletics, with a primary focus on cheer, baseball, volleyball, and soccer.

She assists with various duties within the Sports Information Office, including statistics, graphic design, photography, content planning, and managing media-related responsibilities such as interviews with student-athletes, coaches, and administrators.

Currently, Mykah is spearheading multiple marketing and media initiatives, including the department-wide Uncaged Campaign, which highlights student-athlete individuality and brand building, and Southern’s Girl, a creative marketing movement celebrating the legacy, pride, and power of women across Southern University Athletics.

She is also leading a project to enhance the Athletic Department’s social media presence while teaching both faculty and student-athletes the importance of self-branding and modern content creation tools.

Throughout her tenure, Mykah has contributed to and captured content for numerous major events, including the Southern vs. Grambling game at NBA All-Star Weekend, two Bayou Classics, two NCAA Cheer Competitions in Daytona, and two projects for ESPN’s Black College Live.

In addition, she completed a Media Relations internship with the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), furthering her experience in collegiate sports communications and storytelling.
