Auntwan Riggins

Auntwan Riggins enters his first season on the bluff. He brings decades of playing, coaching, and leadership experience to the program as the Hitting and Infield Coach, where he is responsible for overseeing the offense.

A Texas native, Riggins attended Crockett High School before graduating from James Madison High School in Houston. Riggins played collegiately at Texas Southern University, where he competed as a shortstop and earned SWAC Newcomer of the Year honors in 1997.

He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1998 and went on to play professional baseball as an infielder and outfielder, reaching the Triple A level with the Portland Beavers in 2001.

He earned his degree in Administration of Justice from Texas Southern University in 2011 and later built an impressive coaching
resume during his tenure at Prairie View A&M University (2015–2025). While at PVAMU, Riggins helped guide the program to a SWAC West Division Championship in 2021 and was named Black College Nines Coach of the Year in 2022, serving as the program’s hitting and infield coach.

Riggins holds CPR and ABCA certifications and is known for his developmental approach to offense and infield play. His coaching philosophy centers on growth, accountability, and adaptability, often emphasizing that
“your level of growth comes down to how coachable and open you are to learning new things.” Off the field, Riggins enjoys golfing and spending time with his wife, Deveka, and their two daughters, Masyn and Hudsyn.
