BATON ROUGE, La. — Senior libero Najah Harris was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after leading the league in digs and digs per set for the third consecutive week, the conference announced Tuesday.
 
Harris continued her standout season by helping lead the Lady Jaguars to a 2-1 record during the week while recording 53 digs, averaging 4.82 digs per set.
 
After leading the nation in total digs and ranking third nationally in digs per set the previous week, Harris ranked sixth in the country in total digs and 59th in digs per set during the latest reporting period.
 
The Dallas native opened the week with 12 digs in Southern's 3-0 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before recording her fifth 20-dig performance of the season with 20 digs in a five-set thriller against UAPB. Harris closed the week with 21 digs against Grambling, marking her second 20-dig performance in a three-set match this season.
 
For the season, Harris ranks 18th nationally with 247 digs and 10th in the NCAA with 4.94 digs per set.
 
Harris also continues to climb the Southern record book. The senior currently ranks third on the program's all-time digs list with 1,178, just 23 behind Lourena Beathely for second place. Her career average of 3.89 digs per set ranks second all-time at Southern.
 
Among active NCAA Division I players, Harris ranks 35th nationally in career digs and 21st in career digs per set.
 
The weekly honor marks Harris' first SWAC Defensive Player of the Week selection of the season.
