BATON ROUGE, La. — Southern volleyball junior Penina Vito was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Setter of the Week after leading the conference in assists, the league announced Tuesday.
 
Vito paced the SWAC with 105 assists during the week, ranking 50th nationally. Her 8.08 assists per set also led the conference.
 
The Arizona native opened the week with 16 assists over two sets in Southern's victory over SUNO.
 
Vito carried that momentum into the Crimson Classic, recording 35 assists and seven digs against Jacksonville State. Later that day, she posted her first double-double of the season, finishing with 40 assists and 11 digs.
 
Vito closed out the weekend with 14 assists against Alabama. She also recorded at least one service ace in each of Southern's three matches at the Crimson Classic.
 
The weekly honor marks the first for Vito on the season.
