BATON ROUGE, La. — Freshman Maleah Faust was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday following a standout week that helped the Southern volleyball team earn a historic win over Southeastern and compete against three strong opponents at the Southern Miss Invitational.
 
Faust led the Lady Jaguars with 80 assists during the week, averaging 5.71 assists per set. She also recorded 18 digs, six kills, two blocks and an ace. Her 80 assists ranked third in the SWAC, while her 5.71 assists per set ranked fourth in the conference.
 
Making her first collegiate start against Southeastern, Faust turned in a career-best performance with 39 assists, the most by a Lady Jaguar this season, to help Southern secure a four-set victory. She also added five digs, two kills and two blocks against the Lions.
 
Faust continued her strong play at the Southern Miss Invitational, opening the weekend with 13 assists, three digs, a kill and her first collegiate ace against Lamar.
 
The California native followed with 18 assists and six digs against Houston Christian before closing the weekend with her fourth consecutive double-digit assist performance against Southern Miss. Faust finished the match with 10 assists, four digs and three kills.
 
The weekly honor marks Faust's first SWAC Newcomer of the Week selection of her collegiate career.
