Southern Erupts Late to Defeat Alcorn State 8-4 in Series Opener

LORMAN, MS -- Southern exploded for five runs in the seventh inning to break open a tight contest and roll to an 8-4 win over Alcorn State in Game 1 of the weekend SWAC series Friday night in Lorman, Mississippi. The Jaguars collected 11 hits and used timely extra-base knocks and aggressive base running to flip a 4-2 deficit into a comfortable victory.

Southern struck first in the opening inning when Xavier Bradley delivered an RBI single, but Alcorn responded with a steady offensive push, taking a 4-2 lead through five innings.

The game turned dramatically in the seventh. With two runners on, Jaylon Lucky tied the game with a two-run single. Moments later, Glenn Green III delivered the knockout blow—a bases-clearing triple that gave Southern a 7-4 advantage.

Southern added an insurance run in the eighth, while the bullpen shut the door over the final three innings to secure the win.
