BATON ROUGE, La. – Laila Clark has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week following a standout performance last week, the league announced Thursday. This is the second Newcomer of the Week honor for Clark this season.
 
Clark powered the Lady Jaguars at the plate, hitting .556 with six RBIs, a home run and the game-winning hit in the series finale to complete a three-game sweep of Grambling. The sophomore is now batting .438 on the season and has recorded a hit and an RBI in 12 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the nation.
 
She opened the series by going 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and three runs scored. Clark followed with a 1-for-2 performance in game two before delivering a clutch 2-for-4 outing in the finale, including a double and four RBIs.
 
Clark currently ranks second in the SWAC in home runs (7), RBIs (37) and batting average (.438). Nationally, she sits 48th in RBIs and 97th in batting average while boasting an .875 slugging percentage, which ranks second in the conference and 53rd in the country.
