COVINGTON, Ga. — Southern's offense stayed red-hot Saturday, powering the Lady Jaguars to a sweep at the Leonard Moody HBCU Invitational at the Turner Lake Softball Complex.

Southern University (4-4) racked up 17 hits on the day, including seven extra-base hits and three home runs, in victories over North Carolina A&T and University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Game 1: Southern 4, North Carolina A&T 1
Southern leaned on timely power and dominant relief pitching to open the day with a 4-1 win over North Carolina A&T (4-6).

The Aggies struck first in the top of the second inning on a solo home run by J. Moss, but Southern answered immediately.

Abigail Mitchell sparked the rally with a single before
Prestaisha White laced a double to put two runners in scoring position.
Laila Clark then delivered the decisive blow — a three-run home run to center field, her second in as many days — giving the Lady Jaguars a 3-1 lead.

Southern added an insurance run in the third when
Keira Miracle-Tilford launched a solo homer to center, stretching the advantage to 4-1.

In the circle,
Jordynn Jennings was dominant in relief. Entering in the second inning, Jennings allowed just two hits over 5.1 shutout innings while striking out six to secure the win.
Aaliyah Zabala started and allowed one run in 1.2 innings.

White paced Southern with two hits, while Clark drove in three of the team's four runs.

Game 2: Southern 11, Maryland Eastern Shore 3
The Lady Jaguars' bats stayed hot in the nightcap, erupting for 11 runs on 11 hits in an 11-3 win over UMES (0-3).

Southern wasted no time setting the tone.
Ava Wallace tripled to ignite a two-run first inning, and Mitchell followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Jaguars an early edge.

After UMES briefly took a 3-2 lead in the third, Southern responded emphatically. Mitchell delivered a two-run single to put the Jaguars back in front, and Clark added a two-run triple as part of a four-run inning that made it 6-3.

Southern continued to pull away with three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Mitchell led the charge, going 3-for-3 with five RBIs, including a two-run homer in the sixth. Clark added three RBIs, while Wallace scored three times.

Jennings once again anchored the pitching staff, tossing 3.2 shutout innings in relief and allowing just one hit. Southern held UMES to three hits total.
