BATON ROUGE, LA – After a competitive first half, Southern struggled to get the ball rolling in the second half, allowing Jackson State to secure a lopsided victory on Saturday night at A.W. Mumford Stadium in front of 27,487 fans.
Southern struck first with a 37-yard field goal from
Nathan Zimmer, and later took a 13–10 lead on
Trey Holly's electrifying 73-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter. The Jaguars appeared to have momentum, but Jackson State silenced the home crowd just before halftime with a 51-yard TD strike, giving the Tigers a 17–13 advantage at the break.
Southern leaned heavily on
Trey Holly, who was a bright spot with 11 carries for 149 yards and a touchdown. But quarterback
Ashton Strother struggled, going 10-for-20 for 120 yards with one interception. The Jaguars managed just 300 total yards and were shut out after halftime, converting only 3-of-12 third downs.
The Jaguars were led by senior linebacker
Vincent Paige Jr. with ten tackles and one quarterback hurry, followed by sophomore safety Herman Brister III with eight tackles and three pass breakups. Greyson Lafleur and Elijah West both finished the night with six tackles each

Southern will be back in action on Saturday, October 11th, as they travel to Daytona Beach, FL, to take on Bethune-Cookman. The Game is slated for a 2 PM kickoff and will be streamed live on SWAC TV.
