Southern Opens SWAC Tournament Against Jackson State

11/20/2025 10:55:00 AM

BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern University's women's volleyball team looks to carry its late-season momentum into postseason play as the Lady Jaguars open the 2025 SWAC Volleyball Tournament on Friday, November 21, against Jackson State. The quarterfinal matchup will take place at the Al Lawson Center on the campus of Florida A&M and will be streamed live on SWAC TV.

Southern enters the tournament behind a balanced offensive attack that has strengthened throughout the final weeks of the regular season. The Jaguars have produced 1,161 kills this fall, averaging 10.9 kills per set, and are led by standout outside hitter Arianna Brown, who recently posted a dominant 19-kill, nine-dig, five-block performance in a thrilling reverse sweep of Alabama A&M.

Guiding the offense is senior setter Jordan Felix, who surpassed the 2,000-career-assist milestone earlier this month and continues to steady the attack with more than seven assists per set. On the defensive end, libero Najah Harris anchors the back row with a team-leading 407 digs (3.80 per set), consistently reaching double figures and providing dependable serve-receive stability for the Jaguars.

At the net, middle blocker Sophie Diouf has been a central force for Southern, posting a team-high 59 total blocks while disrupting opposing hitters with her length and timing. Overall, the Jaguars average nearly 13 digs per set and 1.8 aces per set—numbers that reflect the team's defensive identity and aggressive service game, both of which will play major roles in Friday's postseason test.

Jackson State counters with one of the SWAC's most dynamic offensive units, led by senior outside hitter Jayden James, who enters the tournament averaging a league-best 4.02 kills per set with 390 total kills. Right-side hitter Hope Briggs provides additional firepower, posting consistent double-digit kills with high efficiency. Setter Karys Dove, last year's SWAC Setter of the Year, directs the Tigers' offense and has the group operating at a level capable of hitting above .300 when in system.

First serve between Southern and Jackson State is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT in Tallahassee. The winner will advance to Saturday's semifinal round as the race for the SWAC Championship heats up.
