PINE BLUFF, Ark. — Southern University's struggles continued Saturday afternoon as the Jaguars fell 40–21 to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a one-sided SWAC matchup. Southern muffed the opening kickoff that turned into a 7-0 deficit in just 74 second of the ball game.
After Southern tied the game at 7–7 on a 19-yard touchdown pass from
Ashton Strother to Darren Morris, Pine Bluff responded with 17 unanswered points to take a commanding 24–7 halftime lead off a 20-yard touchdown, added a 39-yard field goal, and a 31-yard TD strike just before halftime.
The Jaguars offense flashed in spurts but never found the rhythm needed to match UAPB consistent scoring attack. Costly penalties, a sputtering run game, and giving up big-plays on the defensive side of the ball made it an uphill battle as the game went on.
