Lady Jaguars Fall to Hornets

BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern University could not slow down a balanced Alabama State attack on Friday evening, dropping a 3–0 decision (25–20, 25–20, 25–15) inside Seymour Gymnasium. The loss moves the Lady Jaguars to 12–16 overall and 11–5 in SWAC play.

Despite generating 34 kills, Southern struggled to establish consistent offensive rhythm, finishing the match with a .161 hitting percentage. Even so, several Jaguars turned in strong individual performances.

Middle blocker Sophie Diouf produced an efficient outing with five kills, two blocks, and a .286 hitting percentage, while freshman outside hitter Sereniti Johnson contributed five kills, five digs, and three assists in a well-rounded effort.

Right-side hitter Ariana Brown paced Southern's attack, finishing with 12 kills and delivering at least four in each set.

Setter Jordan Felix continued to guide the offense with 23 assists, adding two digs, a block, an ace, and a kill. Libero Najah Harris once again anchored the back row, recording 14 digs and posting an impressive .889 serve-receive percentage.

Southern battled closely in the opening two frames, never trailing by more than five points, but Alabama State (12-15, 11-4) executed late-set surges each time. The Hornets' tandem of Essence Jones and Madisynne McQueen combined for 23 kills with only four errors, providing a steady offensive lift.

In the third set, Alabama State used a decisive 10–3 run to break open a 3–3 tie, capitalizing on a series of Southern attack errors. Despite late kills from Brown, Zaria Nelson, and Diouf, the Jaguars were unable to close the gap.
