BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern University volleyball team will close out its home schedule with a pivotal Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup against Alabama State on Friday, November 14, at 6 p.m. inside Seymour Gymnasium.
 
The Jaguars enter the contest looking to continue their strong play at home and strengthen their seeding heading into the SWAC Tournament.
 
Southern (13–15, 8–6 SWAC is led by junior outside hitter Arianna Brown who continues to pace the Jaguars' offense, ranking among the SWAC leaders with 369 kills and averaging 3.77 kills per set. Brown, who was named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week earlier this month, also contributes from the service line with 41 aces and adds 204 digs on the year.
 
Running the offense is senior setter Jordan Felix, who recently surpassed the 2,000-career-assist milestone. Felix averages 7.17 assists per set this season while also providing a defensive boost with 175 digs and 20 service aces. Her leadership and court awareness have been critical to Southern's offensive rhythm down the stretch.
 
Anchoring the back row is junior libero Najah Harris, who has been a standout all season with a team-leading 379 digs and an average of 3.83 digs per set. Harris' consistency and quick reactions have helped stabilize the Jaguars' defense and transition play. At the net, junior middle blocker Sophie Diouf provides a strong presence with 51 total blocks, along with efficient attacking that has bolstered Southern's front-line play.
 
Alabama State (11–15, 10–4 SWAC) enters the match near the top of the conference standings after a strong campaign in league play. The Hornets are led by outside hitter Jyriah Morgan, who has tallied 348 kills and 42 blocks, and setter Sierra Scanlan, who directs the offense with 677 assists and 188 digs. Alabama State's balanced approach and defensive consistency — averaging nearly 13 digs per set as a team — have made them one of the SWAC's most competitive squads.
